Ingredients
1½ lb potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
1 lb ground beef
1 small onion, finely chopped
2 cups shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese
1½ cups chicken broth
1 cup milk or cream
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tsp salt
½ tsp black pepper
1 tsp paprika
1 tbsp olive oil or butter
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a baking dish. Heat olive oil or butter in a skillet over medium heat, add ground beef and chopped onion, cook until the beef is browned and the onion is soft, then stir in garlic, salt, pepper, and paprika and remove from heat. Arrange half of the sliced potatoes evenly in the baking dish, spoon half of the cooked beef mixture over the potatoes, and sprinkle with some of the cheese. Repeat with the remaining potatoes, beef, and cheese. In a bowl, mix chicken broth and milk, then slowly pour it evenly over the casserole. Cover tightly with foil and bake for 45–50 minutes until the potatoes are tender. Remove the foil and bake uncovered for another 15–20 minutes until the top is golden and bubbly. Let rest for 10 minutes before serving so the layers set nicely.
