Inspired by classic Italian flavors, this easy casserole is perfect for busy weeknights, family dinners, or potluck gatherings. It’s hearty, cheesy, and always a crowd-pleaser.
Ingredients:
1 can (8 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough
1 lb (450 g) ground beef or Italian sausage
1 small onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 cup marinara or spaghetti sauce
1 tsp Italian seasoning
½ tsp salt
½ tsp black pepper
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
Optional: sliced olives, bell peppers, or mushrooms
Instructions (Method of Preparation):
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a baking dish.
Cook the filling: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef (or sausage) with the chopped onion until browned. Drain excess fat.
Add garlic, marinara sauce, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Stir well and simmer for 3–5 minutes. Remove from heat.
Prepare the base: Unroll the crescent dough and press it evenly into the bottom of the baking dish, sealing any seams.
Assemble the casserole: Spread the meat sauce evenly over the crescent dough.
Sprinkle mozzarella and Parmesan cheese over the top. Add any optional toppings if desired.
Bake uncovered for 20–25 minutes, or until the crescent dough is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
Remove from the oven and let rest for 5 minutes before slicing and serving.
Serving Tip:
Serve hot with a fresh green salad or garlic bread for a complete and satisfying meal.
