Christmas Butter Cookies

Ingredients

  • Unsalted butter – 1 cup (225g), softened
  • Powdered sugar – ½ cup (60g)
  • Egg – 1 large
  • Vanilla extract – 1 tbsp
  • All-purpose flour – 2 cups (250g)
  • Cornstarch – ¼ cup (30g)
  • Salt – a pinch

Instructions

Beat the softened butter until smooth, creamy, and pale. Add the powdered sugar and mix until light and fluffy. Add the egg and vanilla and mix until well combined.

Whisk the flour, cornstarch, and salt in a separate bowl. Add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture and mix gently until a soft dough forms.

For cut-out star cookies:
Chill the dough for 20–30 minutes, then roll out on a lightly floured surface. Cut into star shapes using a cookie cutter.

For piped star cookies:
Use a piping bag fitted with a star nozzle. Pipe star shapes or rosettes onto a lined baking tray.

Bake at 170°C (340°F) for 10–14 minutes, until the edges are lightly golden. Allow to cool completely so they firm up and stay crisp.
