Kentucky Butter Cake Recipe

Ingredients:
For the Cake:

2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
2 cups granulated sugar
4 large eggs, room temperature
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon almond extract (optional)
1 cup buttermilk, room temperature
For the Butter Sauce:

1/2 cup unsalted butter
1 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup water
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions:

  1. Preheat the Oven:

Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C). Grease and flour a 10-inch bundt pan, or spray it with non-stick cooking spray.

  1. Prepare the Cake Batter:

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar using an electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy, about 4-5 minutes.
Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla and almond extracts.
Alternately add the dry ingredients and buttermilk to the butter mixture, beginning and ending with the flour mixture. Mix until just combined—do not overmix.

  1. Bake the Cake:

Pour the batter into the prepared bundt pan and spread it evenly.
Bake for 55-60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Let the cake cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.

  1. Prepare the Butter Sauce:

While the cake is cooling, make the butter sauce. In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
Stir in the sugar and water, and bring the mixture to a simmer. Let it simmer for 3-4 minutes until the sugar has dissolved and the sauce has thickened slightly.
Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.

  1. Pour the Butter Sauce:

Once the cake has cooled for 10 minutes, poke small holes in the cake using a skewer or fork.
Slowly pour the warm butter sauce over the cake, allowing it to soak into the cake. Make sure to cover the entire surface of the cake.
Let the cake absorb the sauce for about 10 minutes before serving.

  1. Serve:

Slice and serve your Kentucky Butter Cake. Enjoy it on its own, or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for extra indulgence!
