These buttery, golden biscuits are melt-in-your-mouth delicious and unbelievably easy to make. They literally swim in melted butter while baking, giving you a soft inside and crispy edges — and when you add ham and cheese, they turn into the perfect comfort food!
Ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
½ teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon sugar (optional, for a hint of sweetness)
1 ½ cups buttermilk (or milk + 1 tbsp vinegar as substitute)
½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
1 cup diced cooked ham
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
½ teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
1 tablespoon chopped chives or parsley (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C).
Melt the butter in a 9×9-inch (23×23 cm) baking dish by placing it in the oven for a few minutes. Once melted, remove carefully.
Mix dry ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
Add wet ingredients: Pour in the buttermilk and stir until just combined — do not overmix.
Fold in ham and cheese. Mix gently to evenly distribute.
Pour the dough over the melted butter in the baking dish. Use a spatula to spread it evenly. You’ll see the butter pooling around the edges — that’s what makes it magical!
Cut into squares (about 9) before baking to help them separate later.
Bake for 20–25 minutes or until the top is golden brown and crispy.
Cool slightly before serving. Garnish with fresh herbs if desired.
Serving Tip
Serve warm for breakfast, brunch, or as a side with soups and stews. These biscuits are incredible on their own or split open and filled with extra cheese and ham!
