Baked Meatballs in Marinara Sauce with Mozzarella & Parmesan

Description
This comforting baked meatball dish is simple, hearty, and full of classic Italian-inspired flavor. Juicy meatballs are gently baked in rich marinara sauce, then topped with melted mozzarella and savory Parmesan for a bubbly, golden finish. It’s the kind of easy oven-baked meal that feels cozy and satisfying, perfect for family dinners, gatherings, or even meal prep. Minimal effort, maximum comfort.

Ingredients
500 g (about 1 lb) cooked beef meatballs (fresh or frozen)
2 cups marinara sauce
1½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning (optional)
Pinch of red pepper flakes (optional)
Fresh basil or parsley for garnish (optional)

Method of Preparation
Preheat the oven
Preheat your oven to 190°C / 375°F.
Arrange the meatballs
Place the meatballs in a single layer in a baking dish. They can be snug but not stacked.

Add the sauce
Pour the marinara sauce evenly over the meatballs. Gently turn a few meatballs with a spoon so they are mostly coated. The sauce does not need to fully cover them, but each meatball should be in contact with the sauce.

Cover and bake
Cover the baking dish tightly with aluminum foil.
Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until the meatballs are heated through and the sauce is bubbling around the edges. If the meatballs are large or tightly packed, bake for an extra 5 minutes.

Add the cheese
Carefully remove the foil. Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella evenly over the meatballs, then add the grated Parmesan on top. This combination gives you both stretchy melted cheese and deep, savory flavor.

Bake uncovered
Return the dish to the oven and bake uncovered for 8–10 minutes, or until the cheese is fully melted and lightly golden.
For a more browned top, switch to broil for 1–2 minutes, watching closely to avoid burning.

Rest and serve
Let the dish rest for 5 minutes before serving. This helps the sauce settle and makes the cheese easier to serve.

Variations & Tips
Use turkey or chicken meatballs for a lighter version.

Add ricotta cheese under the mozzarella for extra creaminess.
Stir in cooked pasta (rigatoni or shells) before baking for a heartier meal.

Add vegetables like bell peppers, onions, or mushrooms to bake in the sauce.

Assemble the dish ahead of time and refrigerate for up to 24 hours; just add 5–10 extra minutes to the covered baking time.
