Milk Toast

Description
Milk Toast is a humble, Depression-era comfort food that helped keep families nourished during hard times. Made with just a few simple pantry staples, this dish is warm, creamy, and surprisingly satisfying. Soft toast soaked in gently heated milk creates a soothing, nostalgic meal that proves comfort doesn’t need to be complicated. It’s simple, filling, and feels like a warm hug on a plate.

Ingredients
2 slices of bread
1 cup milk
1 tablespoon butter
A pinch of salt
1 teaspoon sugar (optional, for a lightly sweet version)

Method of Preparation

Toast the bread slices until lightly golden. Place them on a serving plate.

In a small saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until warm. Do not let it boil.

Add the butter to the warm milk and stir until completely melted.

Season with a pinch of salt. Add sugar if you prefer a slightly sweet taste.

Pour the warm milk mixture evenly over the toasted bread.

Serve immediately while warm and comforting.
Enjoy
