Sometimes the simplest dishes are the most comforting. A bowl of perfectly cooked white rice is soft, fluffy, and incredibly versatile. It pairs beautifully with vegetables, meat, fish, or sauces, and it’s a staple in many cuisines around the world. This foolproof method gives you light, tender rice every time—no mush, no sticking, just perfect grains.
Ingredients:
1 cup white rice (long-grain or medium-grain)
2 cups water
½ teaspoon salt (optional)
1 teaspoon butter or oil (optional)
Instructions:
Rinse the rice under cold water 2–3 times until the water runs mostly clear. This removes excess starch and helps keep the rice fluffy.
In a medium saucepan, add the rice, water, and salt.
Bring to a boil over medium-high heat.
Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and cover the pot.
Let it simmer gently for 15–18 minutes, or until the water is fully absorbed.
Remove from heat and let the rice rest (still covered) for 5 minutes.
Fluff with a fork, add butter or oil if desired, and serve warm.
Tips:
For extra flavor, cook the rice in chicken or vegetable broth instead of water.
Don’t lift the lid while cooking—steam is key!
Perfect as a side dish or base for stir-fries, curries, and stews.
