Candied Orange Peels (Easy Homemade Citrus Candy)

Description:
Candied Orange Peels are a classic homemade citrus treat made from simple ingredients. Sweet, chewy, and lightly bitter, they are perfect for snacking, decorating cakes and desserts, or dipping in chocolate for an extra indulgent touch. This easy recipe transforms leftover orange peels into a delicious candy you’ll love.

Ingredients:

3 large oranges
2 cups granulated sugar
2 cups water
Extra sugar for coating (optional)

Instructions:
Prepare the Oranges
Wash the oranges thoroughly. Cut off the top and bottom, score the peel into quarters, and carefully remove the peels. Slice them into thin strips.

Blanch the Peels
Place the orange peels in a saucepan, cover with water, and bring to a boil. Boil for 10 minutes, then drain. Repeat this step once more to reduce bitterness.

Make the Sugar Syrup
In the same saucepan, combine 2 cups sugar and 2 cups water. Bring to a gentle boil, stirring until the sugar dissolves.

Candy the Peels
Add the blanched orange peels to the syrup. Reduce heat and simmer for 45–60 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the peels become translucent.

Dry the Peels
Remove the peels with a fork and place them on a wire rack or parchment paper. Let them dry for 1–2 hours.

Coat with Sugar (Optional)
Once slightly sticky but dry, roll the peels in granulated sugar if desired.

Serving & Storage:
Enjoy as a snack, use as a dessert topping, or dip in melted dark chocolate.
Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks.
