This recipe has become a tradition on our annual camping trip. It’s simple, hearty, incredibly flavorful, and requires minimal cleanup, which makes it perfect for cooking outdoors. Wrapped in foil and cooked over the campfire, everything steams together beautifully, locking in flavor and tenderness. Once you try it this way, you’ll never cook it any other way again.
Campfire Foil Packet Dinner (The Ultimate Camping Meal)
Ingredients:
1 lb beef steak or chicken breast, cut into bite-size pieces
3 medium potatoes, thinly sliced
1 onion, sliced
1 bell pepper, sliced
2 tablespoons olive oil or melted butter
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon paprika
½ teaspoon dried thyme or Italian seasoning
Optional: mushrooms, carrots, or zucchini
Fresh parsley (for garnish)
Preparation Method:
Prepare the Foil
Tear off large sheets of heavy-duty aluminum foil. Double-layer them to prevent leaks.
Assemble the Ingredients
Place potatoes in the center of the foil first, then add the meat, onion, bell pepper, and any extra vegetables.
Season Well
Drizzle with olive oil or butter. Add garlic, salt, pepper, paprika, and herbs. Toss gently to coat everything evenly.
Seal the Packets
Fold the foil tightly into sealed packets, making sure no steam can escape.
Cook Over the Campfire
Place packets on hot coals or a grill over the fire. Cook for 25–30 minutes, turning once halfway through.
Serve & Enjoy
Carefully open (watch the steam!), garnish with fresh parsley, and enjoy straight from the foil.
