
A fast, flavorful, and tender beef stir-fry inspired by classic Chinese takeout dishes.
The secret to this recipe is a simple marinade that softens the beef while infusing it with rich umami flavors. Perfect for busy weeknights—serve it with steamed rice or noodles for a delicious meal in minutes.
Ingredients
For the Beef:
500 g beef strips (sirloin, flank, or tenderloin)
1 tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp oyster sauce
1 tbsp cornstarch
1 tsp sugar
1 tbsp vegetable oil
1 tsp minced garlic
1 tsp minced ginger (optional)
Pinch of black pepper
For the Sauce:
2 tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp oyster sauce
1 tbsp hoisin sauce (optional)
½ cup water or beef broth
1 tsp cornstarch (mixed with 2 tbsp water)
1 tsp sesame oil
Vegetables (optional):
1 medium onion, sliced
1 bell pepper, sliced
2 green onions, chopped
For Cooking:
2–3 tbsp oil
Method
- Prepare & Tenderize the Beef
In a bowl, add beef strips.
Add soy sauce, oyster sauce, sugar, cornstarch, garlic, ginger, oil, and pepper.
Mix well and let it marinate for 15–20 minutes (longer = softer beef).
- Prepare the Sauce
In a small bowl, mix soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin, water/broth, and sesame oil.
In another cup, mix cornstarch with water (slurry) and set aside.
- Cook the Beef
Heat 2–3 tbsp oil in a hot pan or wok.
Add the marinated beef and stir-fry on high heat for 2–3 minutes until it changes color and becomes tender.
Remove beef from the pan and set aside.
- Stir-Fry Vegetables (Optional)
In the same pan, add a little oil if needed.
Add onion and bell pepper and cook 1–2 minutes.
- Combine Everything
Return the beef to the pan.
Pour the sauce mixture over it.
Add the cornstarch slurry to thicken the sauce.
Stir on high heat for 1–2 minutes until the sauce becomes glossy and coats the beef.
- Serve
Garnish with chopped green onions.
