The Simple, Savory Twist That Beats Every Other Sandwich
There’s grilled cheese… and then there’s Harrison Ford’s grilled cheese — rich, crispy, buttery, and loaded with flavor in a way that almost shouldn’t be possible from a sandwich this simple. It’s warm, melty, golden perfection, and once you try it, no other grilled cheese will ever compare!
Ingredients:
2 slices of thick rustic bread (sourdough or country loaf recommended)
2 tablespoons salted butter, softened
1 tablespoon mayonnaise
1 teaspoon Dijon mustard (optional, but highly recommended)
1 cup shredded cheese blend (cheddar + Gruyère or mozzarella)
1 pinch garlic powder
1 pinch black pepper
1 tablespoon caramelized onions (optional but incredible)
Instructions:
- Spread butter on one side of each slice of bread.
- On the inside surfaces, spread a thin layer of mayonnaise and a touch of Dijon mustard.
- Sprinkle garlic powder and black pepper over the mayonnaise to boost flavor.
- Add half of the cheese on one slice of bread.
- If using caramelized onions, spread them over the cheese.
- Add the remaining cheese and top with the second slice of bread (butter side facing outward).
- Heat a skillet over medium-low heat.
- Place the sandwich on the skillet and cook for 3–4 minutes per side, pressing lightly with a spatula until:
The cheese is fully melted
The bread is crispy and deeply golden brown
- Remove from the pan, let rest for 1 minute, then slice and enjoy while hot.
