Steak & Cheese with Grilled Onions

Ingredients

  • Thinly sliced steak (ribeye or sirloin), 350–400 g
  • Onion, 1 large, thinly sliced
  • Olive oil, 2 tbsp
  • Butter, 1 tbsp
  • Salt, 1 tsp
  • Black pepper, 1/2 tsp
  • Garlic powder, 1/2 tsp
  • Provolone or mozzarella cheese, 4–6 slices
  • Soft sub rolls, 2
  • Optional: chopped parsley, 1 tbsp

Instructions

  1. Heat 1 tbsp olive oil and the butter in a pan over medium heat. Add sliced onions and cook 10–12 minutes until golden and soft. Remove and set aside.
  2. Add remaining olive oil to the pan. Increase heat to medium-high.
  3. Season steak with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Cook steak 2–3 minutes, stirring, until browned and just cooked.
  4. Add onions back into the pan. Top with cheese slices and let them melt over the meat.
  5. Lightly toast sub rolls if desired.
  6. Pile the cheesy steak and onions into the rolls and serve warm.

Cook time: 12 minutes
Servings: 2
Tips: Add sautéed bell peppers for extra sweetness or a drizzle of mayo for creaminess.
